Why do I need this medicine?
Tamsulosin is used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland in men. This enlargement of the prostate gland is called Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH). The enlarged prostate gland may cause problems when you pass urine.

Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder. This helps to improve symptoms such as difficulty in passing urine, slow or interrupted flow of urine, frequent urination and dribbling after passing urine.

Why do I need this medicine?

How do I take this medicine?
Take Tamsulosin exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take Tamsulosin 30 minutes after a meal. Try to take it at the same time each day. Swallow Tamsulosin whole with a glass of water. Do not cut, open, crush or chew the capsule or tablet.

Tamsulosin must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking Tamsulosin even when there are signs of improvement. Do not stop taking Tamsulosin unless instructed by the doctor.

When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have severe liver disease. Alert your doctor if you or your family members have ever had prostate cancer.

Do not take Tamsulosin if you have ever fainted or felt dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, chest pain (angina), low blood pressure, allergy to sulphur medicines or any other medical conditions.

If you are going for an operation, including minor surgery, eye or dental operations, inform your doctor, surgeon or dentist that you are taking Tamsulosin.

What side effects could I experience?
Tamsulosin may cause headache, weakness and ejaculation problems (less or no semen).

You may feel dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, especially if you are taking Tamsulosin for the first time or if your dose has recently been changed. This is normal and should improve gradually as you get used to the medicine. It will help if you get up slowly from a sitting or lying down position. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down until you feel better. Do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

If you experience a prolonged, painful erection, alert your doctor and seek medical treatment immediately.

Let your doctor know if any side effects bother you or if they do not go away.

Less commonly, Tamsulosin may cause other side effects. Alert your doctor if you experience any unusual problems while being treated with Tamsulosin.

Can I take this with other medicines?
Do not take medicines for treatment of erection problems such as sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil together with Tamsulosin.

Do not take Tamsulosin if you have taken similar medicines such as doxazosin or prazosin.

Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicine especially those listed here:

- cimetidine (a gastric medicine)
- high blood pressure medicines
- fluoxetine (a mood medicine)
- ketoconazole (an antifungal medicine)

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?
Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
